Welcome from Robert Asdal, Executive Director

Pump Education is Critically Important
As I wrote for the inaugural issue of a new pump magazine in 1997,

"education about pumps and pumping systems is critically important to pump users, engineering contractors, distributors and manufacturers."

This is as much the case today as it was then. We are pleased to offer this first HI online course, and plan to introduce others in the future, to address the critical need for pump education.

The Hydraulic Institute represents a significant body of knowledge and expertise. We have been writing standards since 1917, and have been approved as an ANSI standards writing organization for over a decade. HI members, users, engineering contractors and others who work with us in standards development help continuously shape existing and new standards – and expand the body of pump and pumping systems knowledge that HI embraces. Such standards provide users with the fundamental information you need to properly select, apply, install, operate and test each type of pump you may use.

If you are unfamiliar with these standards, I invite you to visit our e-Store at www.pumps.org. Our first online course, then, is based on this collective knowledge and expertise that HI and its members represent. Our members, and the users that review our products, represent the best and brightest pump engineers in the world – and we are pleased to share their knowledge with you.

Improving user understanding of pumps has long been integral to the mission of the Hydraulic Institute. We invite you to learn about other resources of the Institute at www.pumps.org, including other publications, energy reduction video training, case studies, pump life cycle cost and, of course, ANSI/HI pump and pumping system standards.

We invite you to begin your educational journey with us, learning about pumps and pumping systems online. Upon completion of the course, make sure to register you comments in our online survey so that we can continue to improve and expand upon our educational offerings in the future.

Sincerely,

Robert K. Asdal

Executive Director
